How do students enroll at West40 Remote School?

Someone working with a student at their home school recognizes that the in-person school environment is not a good fit for the student due to a medical or mental health concern.  This may be a counselor, social worker, student services coordinator, administrator, or superintendent.  The home school staff member contacts West40 Remote School to verify the eligibility of the student.  If eligibility is determined, the student is enrolled at West40 Remote.  Families interested in the remote school should contact their home school's administration or counselors.

What age group can attend West40 Remote School?

West40 Remote School serves students in grades 4 - 12.

Can any student in Illinois attend West40 Remote School that is interested?

No.  We currently work with students in North, South, and West Cook Counties that have been identified as medically fragile, emotionally fragile, or have a medically fragile family member.  These are diagnosed conditions by doctors and therapists or are issues identified by a school/ school district that have extensive documentation.

How long are students enrolled at West40 Remote School?

Our ultimate goal is to help our students stay connected to and eventually return to their home schools.  Enrollment length is determined by multiple factors, such as continued eligibility and success in the remote setting.

Does my child have to work by themselves?  Do they get support?

Despite the fact that our school is completely online, we maintain a daily synchronous schedule to ensure that students have access to a certified teacher on a continuous basis.  That means that, just like in a traditional school, where students follow a bell schedule and move from classroom to classroom, our students follow a schedule and move from zoom room to zoom room.

Every day, our students meet with teachers who can support them in their classes.
Students can work at their own pace, but all of our teachers are there to help, encourage, and facilitate learning.
